2021 Washington County School Board Elections

School Board elections for Washington County will be held on Tuesday, May 18th. Although these elections have notoriously low turnout, school board members are very important members of the community. They manage the public school district's affairs, personnel, and properties. This year they were also responsible for putting district Covid policies in place.

Changes to the millage rate, which is how schools calculate taxes on local property, are also be voted on during these elections.

There are two contested elections for Fayetteville School Board.

In Zone 1, incumbent Nika Waitsman is being challenged by Miriam Smith. Click here to read more about the candidates.

Incumbent Megan Hurley is running against Elizabeth Beasley for at-large positions. Everyone within the school district is able to vote for the at-large candidate. Read about these two candidates here:

Fayetteville School Board candidate has a history of unpaid taxes

Early voting will be held at the Washington County Courthouse from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Tuesday, May 11 through Monday, May 17. (No Saturday voting).

NOTE: All eligible voters in the Fayetteville School District will be able to cast their vote at any of the vote centers listed on the Election Commission website in Washington County.
